For earth week, we would like to highlight kelp’s vital role in a healthy planet. This foundational ecosystem provides essential advantages for climate mitigation, biodiversity, and coastal protection. These submerged forests are among some of the most productive ecosystems on earth, and are also one of the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. This is why the Around the Americas crew, led by lead scientist, Grace Dalton is taking to the waters and conducting the first consecutive pole to pole kelp study by an organization. To best protect and understand this incredible algae, we must study it! This earth week, let’s remember that over 70% of our earth is the ocean- let’s help protect it and the immense biodiversity that it supports.
