Inspiring a new generation of ocean stewards
Sailing around North and South America to connect with schools, educators, and scientists around North and South America to share research and stories.
The Around the Americas educational initiative connects schools, educators, and scientists across North and South America by sharing research and stories, fostering a deeper understanding of our shared ocean and its vital role in sustaining life. By presenting the Americas as a single, vast island surrounded by one interconnected ocean, the program highlights the urgency of collective action to protect marine ecosystems. Through real-time data collection, hands-on activities, and cross-cultural exchanges, learners of all ages are empowered to critically explore ocean stewardship and take meaningful action in their communities.
The Around the Americas Expedition furthers this mission by offering an open-source curriculum for schools, researchers, and ocean enthusiasts conducted aboard the vessel One Ocean. Students will engage in interactive lessons on ocean research, sailboat navigation, expedition planning, and life at sea. The five-person crew will document their journey through YouTube videos and live classes, offering students a unique opportunity to interact with the team in real-time.
In partnership with Exploring by the Seat of Your Pants, which has connected over a million students to scientists and explorers globally. This initiative brings innovative, accessible education to classrooms worldwide. Together, these programs inspire curiosity, foster exploration, and empower students to become active participants in ocean conservation.
