Watch our recent YouTube video with Todd Woodard who is the executive director of infrastructure and resources with the Samish Indian Nation:

The One Ocean crew departed from Samish waters on May 3rd, with the blessing of the Samish Indian Nation. Before departure, the One Ocean crew met with Todd to recognize not only the environmental importance of kelp, but also its cultural significance. The Samish Indian Nation is involved in kelp restoration efforts, and works with many different organizations for their conservation efforts. We interviewed Todd at the Maiden of Deception Pass on Rosario Beach in Anacortes, Washington. The Maiden of Deception Pass is a fundamental story to Samish culture.

The Around the Americas team is conducting a pole-to-pole kelp study that will enhance our understanding of kelp forests and help us better conserve these vital ecosystems.

Huge thank you to @samishnation for the escort out and blessing. Thank you for the important work you continue doing.
